1980-82 Geoffrey Beene Micropleated Silk Ensemble [xs/sm]
$2,151.00
Absolutely incredible micro-pleated silk ensemble by Geoffrey Beene c 1980-1982. This is an actual museum piece, with a nearly identical ensemble currently held in the MET permanent collection, a gift to the museum by Mr. Beene himself. This set is truly a feast for the eyes, with incredible texture, color, sheen and of course dramatic silhouette. The blouse is very loosely cut with wide dolman sleeves that are finished with pleating at the wrists. The matching skirt is incredibly full with a huge amount of volume that moves beautifully with the wearer. The set has a very sculptural feel, and is truly wearable art. Comes with the original matching scarlet scarf. Skirt closes invisibly with hooks at the center back.
Overall excellent condition with some minor notes. There are a few areas of subtle lightening on the blouse, the worst area a 2-3 inch spot on the underside of the right sleeve, as well as a few scattered small marks. These subtle areas gets entirely lost in the drape, texture and sheen of the material and when worn are nearly impossible to notice. The skirt is in excellent condition. Unfortunately the matching red scarf is in poor condition with quite a bit of tearing and areas where it has been repaired. Despite this, it still presents well and is wearable, but upon closer inspection the flaws are notable. The scarf is included as an extra to keep the set together, but the ensemble has been priced as if it were a two piece.
