1920s Handmade Pieced Lace Cocoon Cape [OS]
£468.00
Unbelievably beautiful 1920s cocoon wrap handmade from pieced together sections of both hand tatted and machine made lace. In the complex assembly, many different types of lace can be found, including Brussels, Irish crochet, and tape laces to name a few. The unusual silhouette mirrors 1920s cocoon styles with a cape-like shape and two small armholes at the front. There are two small handmade ball closures at the neckline, and decorative silk bows. This piece is an extraordinary example of early lacework craftsmanship, and is almost certainly one of a kind. A truly marvelous example that would add a special feminine touch to any ensemble, perhaps even bridal.
Remarkable pristine condition. This piece came from a trousseau collection from a wealthy Westchester NY estate, and was likely never used.
