Description

Absolutely remarkable 1920s coat made in its entirety from a dense handworked sheer soutache mesh, an exquisite example of master craftsmanship and textile experimentation in the early 20th century. The body of the coat is made from hundreds of soutache floral mandala motifs stitched together into a somehow simultaneously geometric and organic pattern. Beyond the textile itself, the design is a stroke of genius with a wave of wide gores through the hem that create a voluminous skirt that moves gracefully with the wearer. The gores, cuffs and collar are made from a similar soutache ground, but with the individual fibers sewn much closer together for a denser look and a nice contrast to the net body. And to take it just one step further, the collar has hidden snaps at either side to give it a convertible nature: it can be worn snapped for a more sculptural stand up collar, or unsnapped for a cape like feel, with the collar draping elegantly over the shoulder. This incredible example is almost certainly one of a kind, a truly deserving of the term "museum quality". A treasure to be cherished for a lifetime and beyond.

Incredible near pristine condition. There are a few extremely subtle areas of light discoloration and a few spots where we have tightened the soutache, but otherwise excellent and presents as mint when worn.
