Absolutely incredible Edwardian 1910s era handmade cotton calico work dress in a rare shade of deep red. The fabric on this piece is so beautiful and detailed with a truly stunning calico design. The dress has large voluminous puffed sleeves and a generously cut wrist opening for comfort and ease. The dress is cut very loosely with a fitted yoke and a voluminous and gathered body that has amazing movement. Buttons down the front with hand bound button holes. The best detail is the extra large gathered patch pocket at the side! The dress is clearly handmade and someone roughly sewn, which adds a lovely antique charm. Such a magnificent example of early workwear.
Condition is incredible near pristine. I believe that this dress was likely never worn, as the buttons and buttonholes appear to have been added later. It appears that the dress was likely sewn completely but the original maker never added the buttons, as there are no buttons at the wrists, and then the chest buttons were added at ta later date (maybe the 70s?). There is one small mark near the hem, bur otherwise this piece is in pristine possibly deadstock condition. The fabric is crisp and clean and presents as beautifully as the day it was made.
Works for a variety of sizes due to loose cut. Would look amazing belted.
