Unbelievably special 1930s rayon crinkle crepe gown in a striking chartreuse shade, covered with gorgeous hand-painted opium poppy appliqués. This gown has it all- bias cut for a flattering fit, mermaid style full hem with pleated details, a low cut back with ties at the waist.. need I go on? The details on this piece are unique: the poppy appliqués are done in the arts and crafts style more commonly seen on 1920s pieces- it is possible that the owner of this gown in the 1930s added these appliqués from their stash of millinery after purchasing the gown! The result is remarkable. Further, this special piece sports the Ransohoff's label, which was a high end department store in San Francisco from 1929 to 1976. All in all, this gown is a remarkable, wearable piece of history.
Excellent structural condition with some subtle fade to the front of the gown, the worst of which is towards the sides, but honestly is not noticeable when worn, and does not detract at all. Some subtle underarm discoloration and an invisible repair. Presents as mint when worn.
