Unbelievably rare and special 1920s stencilled silk velvet blouse By Maria Monaci Gallenga, a legendary Italian textile and fashion designer of the early 20th century whose work is often compared to that of her contemporary Mariano Fortuny and is held in museum collections across the globe. Classic 1920s styling with a simple yet elegant cut through the body that allows the incredible textile to shine. The print depicts stylized roses, an unusual subject choice for Gallenga, but rendered in her classic choice of metallic ink, a marbling of silver, gold, and copper hues. The sleeves are marvelous, a loose flowing cut with an unusual shape at the cuff. The hips, cuffs and neck tie all culminate with hand blown Italian glass beads fastened with robust silk twist cord, another classic detail of Gallenga's work. This garment is made to the highest of couture standards, completely finished by hand even down to the hand done buttonholes. Fully lined in black China silk, and trimmed with silk crepe.

An incredibly unusual piece- the only example of a Gallenga blouse I have seen. Like many of her extant pieces in and out of museums, this garment is unsigned, but has been authenticated based on material, technique and by speaking with multiple textile experts well versed in Maria Gallenga's work. An exquisite once in a lifetime collector's piece.

Incredible near pristine condition. Ever so slight wear to neck tie at the nape of the neck, only noticeable upon very close inspection. Presents as mint condition and appears unworn.
