1880s Broderie Anglais Lace Gown [xs/sm/med]
$1,700.00
Incredibly unusual 1880s gown made from miles of entirely hand embroidered Broderie Anglais cotton lace carefully pieced together to create this elegant masterpiece. Translating to "English embroidery" from its French name, broderie anglais originated in 16th century Europe, and has continued as a popular choice for lightweight garments into the 21st century. This particular example includes many different motifs with floral, foliage and organic shapes, some with open threadworm interspersed to add even more textural interest. Combined with hand tatted lace and gathering towards the hem, and completed with a billowing train, this gown is truly a one of a kind dream.
Excellent condition. A few scattered tiny repairs and small marks around the hem that get entirely lost in the fullness. Presents beautifully.
