1930s Indigo Denim Side Snap Overalls [med/lrg]
$2,926.00
Incredibly rare mid 1930s overall made from suer soft true indigo denim with all the best details. Closes at both sides of the hip with strong metal snaps and at the top of the bib with laurel leaf embossed donut buttons. Has generously sized fully functional pork chop patch pockets at the front, as well as another set of pockets at the back. These overalls are incredibly well made, from a time when clothing was truly made to last. Despite nearing their 100th birthday, this pair of dungarees is ready for a lifetime of wear with work ready seam work, riveting, and topstitching. They are an extremely flattering style with wide cut legs, a classic high waist and bib style that accentuates a woman's figure beautifully. Finding true denim workwear from this period is incredibly difficult- this is the only pair of denim overalls I have ever had the pleasure to offer in the shop. While it is difficult to say for sure, there is a label in the back pocket (see back detail photo) that is entirely illegible at this point in time, but is suspiciously similar in shape, size and material of most NRA labels, which if present, would precisely date the garment to 1933-1935. An incredibly piece of very wearable history that is a must have for the serious collector of early women's workwear.
Excellent condition. There are some subtle minor wear marks throughout, most notably some light fade at the knees and few small marks, nothing in particular worth mention. All hardware is in excellent condition. From looking at the inside seaming of the back bodice it appears that these may have been altered smaller at some point in their life- however it was clearly very well done and does not affect the shape or style and is impossible to notice when worn. The only evidence of this on the exterior is that some of the topstitching in the altered area is ever so slightly wonky. On both lower legs there is evidence of alteration to make the leg narrower- we remove these stitches (probably added in the 1950s when tapered legs were in style) and opened the legs up to the original wide leg shape. The remaining evidence is some slight fade where the pleated inside area shows a slightly darker original indigo color. Otherwise the legs have been hemmed a few inches and could easily be let out if desired. The hem has some wear and slight fray. Overall in incredible condition for a piece of this age and nature, with beautiful touches reminding us of their history. ready to wear.
