1920s Liberty of London Silk Shawl
£365.00
Rare 1920s silk shawl made from an exquisite engineered silk chiffon textile made by none other than Liberty of London. Since the late 19th century, Liberty has been known as a leader in textile and print innovation, creating some of the most unique silk and lamé textiles, especially notable for their works from the 1910s to 1930s. This scarf, although no longer bearing its label, is an unmistakable example of their work utilizing unique weaving and float techniques to create this fantastic textile, a masterwork of texture and color. The surface of the material is both opaque and translucent in various places, reflecting light for an exquisite effect. This piece has been definitively attributed to Liberty of London by comparison with documented extant examples of their work.
