1920s French Hand Embellished Silk Cape [OS]
£966.00
Unbelievably special 1920s hand embellished cape. This piece us a true work of textile art. Despite its lack of any labels, the incredible workmanship is characteristic of the couture quality embellishments that came out of the French fashion workrooms of the early 20th century, where some of the most skilled craftsmen in the world produced high end beaded and sequined garments for the wealthiest and most fashionable women of the time. The cape is a monochrome masterwork utilizing only blacks and greys in a range of beads, sequins and various sheens to create an unbelievably three dimensional design. Up close, there appears to be some randomness to the placement of rows to beads, but from afar the optical illusion creates roselike swirl patterns that glimmer in the light. A truly exceptional example of the very best of 1920s embellishment, and perhaps the only cape you'll ever needs: it's black, it goes with everything!
Excellent condition. Perhaps a few missing sequins or beads here and there, but if so it is impossible to tell. When found there were a few dangling strands all of which we have been reapplied and secured for longevity. Presents as mint condition.
