Rare late 19th to early 20th century French cotton priest's alb. This type of garment was traditionally worn in France by country priests over long, simple linen gowns while conducting services. Many garments of this kind are made only of simple lightweight cotton- this gorgeous example has beautiful netted lacework through the body depicting large crosses surrounded by gorgeous florals and other decoration. The loose silhouette is incredibly full creating a draping, almost Grecian effect on the body. The seamless use of opacity and sheerness makes for endless styling opportunities, and it is perfect for layering with pants, or even over a bathing suit. The quintessential summer cover up!

Excellent restored condition. When found there were quite a few tears in the net ranging from large in size to quite small. We have professionally repaired all the damage and while most repairs are entirely lost, there are a couple repaired areas that are not glaringly obvious, but still somewhat visible. Structurally excellent and presents beautifully, but is perhaps not for the perfectionist.
