Absolutely gorgeous early 20th century metal repoussé and engraved belt. This stunning example was very likely originally worn by a working woman with a chatelaine, carrying all the daily necessities from scissors to a needle + thread, small notepads, shoe button hooks, keys, small money pouches and more, all of which would have been attached with decorated chains and hooks from the links of the belt. These belts were often worn by nurses, housekeepers, librarians, teachers and more as a handy alternative to pockets which were almost never seen in women's clothing at the time. This is an incredibly special example, with gorgeous art nouveau style lady's profiles throughout and complimented by a hand etched central buckle. Closes with an attached hook at the center back, discretely marked "epns" on the interior for electro plated nickel silver.

Excellent antique condition with beautiful age related tarnish patina throughout.
