1930s Coral Silk Chiffon + Lace Gown [xs/sm]
£725.00
Unbelievably rare 1930s crinkle silk chiffon gown in a vivid shade of reddish coral with French Alençon lace detailing. If you know antique lingerie, you know that bright colors like this do not come along often, if ever. This is the only coral gown we have ever seen. It is absolutely remarkable, entirely sewn by hand (down to all the seams and finishing!) with a unique crossover tie waist and super low cut back. Slightly sheer with a super wide cut skirt that drapes and moves beautifully with the wearer. Labelled "Saks Fifth Avenue" in the lower side seam, this garment was almost certainly a custom piece.
Excellent condition. One pinhole in lower skirt. Only real note is that the hem is slightly uneven: it is likely that this gown was stored on a hanger for a long period of time which caused the bias fabric to stretch or "fall" slightly under the weight of the garment. This is a standard occurrence for bias cut pieces of this age; thankfully it is not extreme on this piece at all and mostly resolves itself on the body. It is very subtle and not at all noticeable when worn. Presents as mint.
