1960s Sybil Connolly Couture Micropleated Ensemble [xs/sm]
$1,889.00
Magnificent 1960s ensemble comprised of a matching dress and unique wrap designed by Sybil Connolly, one of the first internationally renown designers from Ireland, also known as "Dublin's Dior". She gained prominence in the 1950s and 60s for her unique couture garments made of Irish linen, famously dressing First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, the Rockefellers and the Mellons. This dress set is a rare tea length example made entirely of hand gathered and stitched Irish linen in a super light, almost gauzy weave, mounted over a silk lining and fully boned structured bodice. The wrap jacket is similarly made but with a tulle lining for breathability. It has sleeves as well as long front panels that can be worn in a million different ways (I would recommend trying it crossed in the front and held in place with a favorite brooch!). Incredibly beautifully made with hand worked couture finishes throughout. The interior of the garment is just as beautiful as the exterior, immaculately designed and executed. Wear the dress on its own with a cardigan or cropped jacket for a dressed down look, or wear the wrap with a slip dress or jeans- the options are endless. An exquisite and highly wearable piece of design history.
Excellent condition. Only note is that there is some discoloration to the ivory bodice lining where the bright pink lining beneath it has color bled slightly, likely from a past cleaning process. This is on the interior of the garment and entirely invisible when worn. Presents as mint.
