Description

Unbelievable rare turn of the century ivory silk dressing gown resplendent with miles of valenciennes insertion lace and flouncing. This piece is undoubtedly the best example of an Edwardian dressing gown that we have ever had the pleasure to offer in the shop- every single detail is exactly on point. It has it all: dramatic balloon sleeves with lace cuff flounces, an insertion lace cape collar, a voluminous body with pleated Watteau back and an incredible zig zag lace detail trailing down the front, all rendered in a gossamer silk crepe de chine and French valenciennes lace with the sweetest bow motifs throughout. It seems very likely this gown was part of a bridal trousseau, perhaps worn once if at all, because of immaculate condition and sheer opulence of the garment. Whether worn as a bridal piece or not, this once in a lifetime, museum quality treasure is sure to make you feel like a queen.

Excellent, near pristine condition. We noted 2-3 pinholes, and a couple very, very subtle little scuff marks towards the bottom of the skirt that get totally lost in the drape. Presents as mint, very likely unworn. At Demetra, each garment is thoroughly cleaned, inspected for damage and professionally repaired with nearly a decade of experience in tailoring and working with antique materials. Each garment will arrive clean and ready to wear will little to no signs of age.
