1920s Rainbow Silk Chinese Embroidered Jacket [med/lrg/xl]
$1,749.00
Incredibly beautiful 1920s silk jacket covered in exquisite Chinese silk embroideries in a rainbow of colors done entirely by hand. These stunning jackets were handmade in China during the 1920s and 30s usually for export to western markets in Europe and America. A truly remarkable example of this type of embroidery work, this jacket is unique in that the colors used are vivid jewel tones, rather than the much more commonly used pastel palettes. The original label (is it extremely rare for these jackets to have a label!) tells us that this jacket was especially made for and sold by Salomon's, probably a high end clothing or department store, in central Panama. It seems likely that the unique color palette was angled towards the Central American market where bright colors are highly prized and sought after. The embroideries on this jacket are fantastic- incredibly densely worked with layers of florals including identifiable chrysanthemums, cherry blossoms, roses and daisies, as well gorgeous butterflies and birds in flight with long tail feathers. Beautifully tailored details throughout including a robust silk lining and two silk covered buttons at the front. A remarkable heirloom treasure that is sure to the crowning jewel of your collection, perfect for dressing up or down year round.
Unbelievably rare pristine condition. Appears unworn.
