Description

An exquisite 1930s pastel green silk satin and lace gown that has been painstakingly restored by Demetra. When found, the bodice of the gown was heavily distorted from hanging, and there was scattered staining and damage throughout. We have carefully reshaped the bodice, replaced lace trims with matching antiques from our materials library, appliquéd over stains and damage with pastel green, blue, and pink antique lace leaves, as well as updating the closures and tightening up any loose seams. As it came to us, the gown itself is/was an incredible feat of craftsmanship, sewn entirely by hand from the very best materials; after 20+ hours of carefully conceived restoration and rework, this garment is truly a one of a kind piece of wearable art. Favorite details include a naturally asymmetrical hem that is longer at both sides and shorter towards the center, adjustable one shoulder tie, and a large keyhole opening at the back with sweet mother of pearl buttons.

This one of a kind garment is a Demetra Revival restoration: a rare but wounded treasure given new life in the Demetra studio using professional tailoring skills, heirloom techniques, and historically accurate materials. It bears a Demetra label, carefully sewn into the interior. This garment is now in excellent to pristine condition, with little to no evidence of wear. The only note is one small section at the back waist where the embroidery was repaired sometime in the past with an ever so slightly different shade of green thread. Despite the color difference, the work was well done so we have left it in place, as it only adds to the history and story of this garment.
