Description

1930s couture mesh romper with floral silk appliqués. This step in is remarkable- every seam, appliqué and embroidery stitch is sewn entirely by hand, an example of the very best craftsmanship money could buy in the early 20th century. Due to the extraordinary amount of time and skill that went into producing a garment of this caliber, pieces like this were almost always custom made. Abstracted foliage motifs in silk are beautifully arranged on a soft cotton mesh base- the texture is mesmerizing. Closes at the crotch with three functional buttons for easy on and off. A remarkable example and would be make a fabulous addition to a unique bridal trousseau.

Excellent condition. One tiny pinkish mark in the mesh at the center of the torso that is incredibly subtle and gets totally lost when worn. There are a few very small repairs at the crotch that are entirely invisible when worn, and one tiny piece of matching lace was added to cover a small hole at the torso. At Demetra, each garment is thoroughly cleaned, inspected for damage and professionally repaired with nearly a decade of experience in tailoring and working with antique materials. Each garment will arrive clean and ready to wear with little to no signs of age.
