Stunningly elegant 1930s black silk chiffon cape with incredible glass hand embellishments along the shoulder. The body of the cape has an incredible and unique drape as it is cut on the bias, giving it amazing body and volume. The beadwork is done by hand in the tambour technique, with tight chain stitches that create wonderful zig zag patterns, almost like an ikat. The beadwork is finished with large faceted statement jewels in green and red. Closes at the center of the neckline with a single hidden hook and eye.
This piece is in frankly remarkable condition. The silk is soft and supple, and there is only minor bead loss with only one of the large gems missing (please see photo). There are a few scattered pulls, but otherwise the chiffon is in near perfect shape. Ready to wear.
Measurements:
Neckline opening circumference 30 in
Length 52 in
Note: this special piece should be stored flat, preferably in an archival box in acid free tissue, and not on a hanger, as to prevent excessive pressure on the shoulder from holding the weight of the heavy beading. If you have any questions about storage, please email us.
For reference, Aya measures 31/25/35 and is 5'8".
This piece will ship fully insured.
