1920s Egyptian Revival Enamel + Pearl Headpiece
$1,572.00
Remarkable 1920s Egyptian Revival hammered brass headpiece adorned with real pearls and enamel. Following the discovery of King Tutankhamen's tomb in 1922, the western world was catapulted into an era of Egyptomania: obsession with all things Egyptian. The Egyptian Revival movement touched all aspects of creative life from clothing to jewelry, as well as film, dance, portrait photography and more. Erté, famous for his fashion illustrations and trend setting style, was incredibly influenced by classical Egyptian design in both his drawings and work in costume design. This headpiece is a remarkable time-traveler, and instantly brings you to the this exact place and time in design history. Incredibly well designed in such a way that the crown of the headpiece adjusts to fit any range of head sizes, as well as easily flattening down for storage. An unbelievably rare example of something right out of period imagery and a must have for a serious collector.
When found, the strands of faux pearls were in very poor condition and falling apart. We have replaced the strands with real freshwater baroque pearls for an extra dash of luxury. The rich green enamel is in remarkable condition, and is reminiscent of the use of faience in Ancient Egypt.
Excellent condition. Minor expected patina and some light wear. A couple small subtle marks on the middle band. Presents beautifully, opens and closes easily. Pearls have been replaced.
Adjustable across the temple, one size fits most. Shown on a size 21 hat form with plenty of room to fit larger or smaller.
