Stunning early 20th century silk and wool evening capelet, with the most incredible mesh and cutwork detailing. Beautifully tailored with an incredible lining made of art nouveau printed silk that extends from the collar into a dramatic attached scarf, finished with handmade silk tassels on either end. The swirling cutwork patterns are filled with a black cotton mesh with a sheer effect that allows the beautiful silk colors to show through. This piece is exceptional and unique, and was very likely a custom piece for a very fashionable woman. Closes at the nape of the neck with hidden hooks and an elaborate early plastic button.

Excellent condition overall with a few minor cosmetic notes. At either side of the neckline where the scarf attached to the cape, there are small period repairs. They are very well done and inconspicuous when the piece us worn. Otherwise, just some minor wear to the braid trim around the cutwork, not at all noticeable, and some light discoloration to the nape of the neck which does not show when worn. Strong and wearable, silk is soft and supple.
