c1900 Mauve Silk Valenciennes Lace Ensemble [xs/sm/med]
$1,248.00
Absolutely unreal mauve lavender silk and Valenciennes insertion lace ensemble composed of a matching jacket and skirt. Both pieces are made from light as air China silk with a very slight sheerness and finished with various widths of French lace. The jacket is long and flowing, almost duster length, with voluminous sleeves, complex yoke detailing and an incredible dagger hem, fastening at the neckline and cuffs with hand crocheted buttons. The matching skirt is similarly incredibly full, especially towards the hem, with multiple layers of flounces and tiers of lace, fastening at the center back with a drawstring waistband, thread bars and hooks. An incredibly rare survivor- I have never seen a set quite like this. It is very unusual for the period in such a way that the garments translate wonderfully well for modern wear. Would make an absolutely stunning bridal ensemble, or worn more casually styled as separates. A must have for a serious collector of Edwardian fashions.
Excellent condition, especially for the age and delicacy of the piece, with some minor cosmetic notes. There are subtle scattered marks and areas of subtle discoloration throughout, but no particular areas of note. The worst spots are at the side of the bust on the jacket and some ever so slight lightening/yellowing at the shoulder, but even these areas are very minor and only noticeable upon very close inspection due to the slight sheerness and drape of the fabric. There are two tiny repaired holes on one sleeve of the jacket, and one tiny repaired hole at the back waist of the skirt. The largest hole repair is less than 1/2"- all are strong and almost imperceptible when worn. Presents beautifully and is very strong and wearable.
