1920s Silk Dragon Hand Embroidered Jacket [sm/med/lrg]
$1,298.00
Remarkable 1920s entirely hand embroidered Chinese silk jacket. Garments of this style are always incredible, but almost without exception they depict florals and occasionally architectural or figural elements. Never before have we seen an example featuring dragons! The design is truly incredible and highly reminiscent of the motifs seen on tradition Chinese Qing dynasty court dragon robes, especially with the simulated wave stitch around the hem and the heavy use of the French knot (also known as the forbidden stitch) throughout the embroideries. The silk threads are richly colored in pastel shades with pops of more vivid colors, all worked into an inky black silk crepe that provides a beautiful contrast. Incredibly special and highly unusual, this rare survivor is surprisingly easy to wear and a must have for a serious collector.
Incredible near pristine condition. The jacket has been relined in house using 1920s Chinese silk jacquard to replace the original rayon lining which was deteriorating when found. The shell of the jacket is in excellent condition with just a few scattered pinholes that can only be seen upon very close inspection, and a couple very small and inconspicuous spots of subtle discoloration to the embroidery on the collar. Presents as mint.
