1940s Parachute Silk Embroidered Blouse [sm/med]
$228.00
Rare 1940s war era parachute silk hand embroidered and smocked blouse. During WWII rationing, many materials such as fabric were hard to come by. As a result, some women began making certain clothing items out of what has now become known as "parachute silk". This material is not silk at all, but actually cast-off nylon parachute material, used for actual parachutes. It is quite special to find a piece made of parachute silk, as it is a true piece of documented history! This blouse is a marvelous example made with highly skilled hand embroidery throughout, wonderful balloon puffed sleeves, and tassels at the neckline. Has hidden snaps up one side.
Wonderful condition. There are some minor pulls and pinholes here and there that get totally lost, and one minor mark on the sleeve. One tassel at the neckline is missing. Presents beautifully.
